online booking
How online booking websites operates
How do booking systems manage all these bookings without making any double-bookings? Well, online booking systems are real-time systems, they consist of an input, a process and an output.
- Input: users of online booking systems request a booking by clicking on the button using a mouse, their figure, tablet stylus pen or a touch pad; these are the input of the system.
- The process: the process is to check that the booking is possible. I will be using a plane ticket as an example but all online booking systems operate in the same way.
- choosing your seat for example, seat 37D
- The system will search for seat 37D in the database
- Once it finds it it will check if the seat is booked already or not
- If the seat is booked, a notification letter will appear stating that and you will have to choose another seat
- If the seat is not booked it will reserve it for you
- It will ask you to enter your personal information, when you are done click submit
- The system will ask you to choose your payment method
- Enter your payment details
- Once the transaction is complete, you will receive a conformation email, or text message or sometimes a call.
- Output: the output of online booking systems is the rejection notification, or conformation email, message or call.
