Communication
downside of email
The major drawback for using email is security threats. Phishing and pharming are used to acquire personal information through email. Phishing is sending a fake email that claims it is from a real organization, mostly banks, but it is actually form a hacker. Pharming sends a link through email to a fake website that claims it is an organization’s website, again mostly banks.
Email is one of the mediums used to distribute viruses. Spam and junk emails mostly contain viruses, but what is spam? Spam emails are emails that are sent to a huge number of recipients.
Email requires a connection to the internet. This could decrease email’s efficiency, specially when the email is urgent, since the sender and the receiver will not be able to send or receive email without internet connection.
Misunderstandings are very likely to occur when using email. The recipient might misinterpret the information send, and this might cause delays in tasks or conflicts or waste time, thus slows communication.
In most cases, when using email, you can’t tell whether the recipient received/read the email or not. This is a downside since the email might be very important or requires instant response.
