Social impact
Information and Communication Technology is growing at a significant rate, but there is still a digital divide that impacts the world socially since societies and communities live in different ways compared with their neighbor societies and communities. How? Well, all businesses are operating online and some new businesses are operating purely online. There is a massive amount of information available online. Additionally, there is a significant divide between the older and the younger generation with information and communication technology.
Nowadays, Information and communication technology is a major subject covered in schools and colleges so younger generation can gain the required skills to use the information and communication technology devices efficiently to surf the internet and communicate with each other. However, old people did not gain the same information and communication technology skills so they are not able to access the same way the younger generations do. Additionally, older people do not have the information technology skills that enable them to shop and bank online.
Nowadays, many countries setup CCTV cameras in different areas for monitoring and control that minimize the number of crimes. Moreover, biometric scanners and card readers are now implemented in many areas to restrict access for confidential areas. However, developing countries that suffer from economical problems are not able to afford the new information and communication technology infrastructure to protect their citizens and residents from crimes and terrorists.
